The history of the environment during the 1970s and 1980s. This collection covers the emergence of an awareness of the importance of the natural environment and the damage done to it without appropriate urban planning and controls. It covers television programs reporting on political campaigns by environment activists over the preservation of ancient Aboriginal rock carvings, the dumping of coal waste at Coalcliff in NSW, Victoria’s Alpine forests and of the flooding of Lake Pedder. Other programs question the membership of representatives of mining companies and oil companies, the main polluters of the environment, of the organisations set up to protect the environment. Stunning footage of Lake Pedder is included as well as interviews with activists maintaining a vigil at Lake Pedder.
